My tutoring approach changes depending on the student. There is no single approach to teaching every student, as they all think differently. However, something important that I keep in mind while tutoring is that I should be a supplement to the actual teacher of the course. My ultimate goal while tutoring is to help my student achieve independence and eventually be able to keep up with the course easily without me. Most student's issues arise with foundational material that is not covered in class and understanding of their teacher. I first try to figure out my students' way of thinking to be able to help them. Once we have established this and they are more comfortable with their current work, I begin to help them build a solid base of fundamental knowledge so that they will be able to learn their course material comfortably without me as soon as possible. If the student is currently not taking a class and I have the primary responsibility of teaching, I make sure to reduce memorization as much as possible. Instead, I emphasize understanding to ensure long-term success for the student.

Tutoring Experience

I have a lot of experience tutoring and teaching. I've volunteered to teach kids at church since 5th grade, and have been a part of my HKIS' Math and Science tutoring center since I was in 9th grade, holding up to 5 or 6 tutoring sessions at school per week. I also have a lot of experience with high-rigor courses. This includes AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Honors Physics/AP Physics 1, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP Economics, AP English Language and Composition, and more! I am also fluent in English and Korean. With a 1550+ SAT score, I can help improve your math, reading, and writing skills to improve easily and rapidly. Through my many years of tutoring, I have experience teaching kids from 3 to 17 years old.
