Hong Kong International School

Hi! My name is Lihan, and I'm a 12th grader at Hong Kong International School. I'm passionate about psychology, economics, and government—subjects I hope to combine to explore how they intersect with real-world social issues. I'm excited to be a Stryv tutor because I love helping others succeed academically! The chance to work with students and tailor my teaching approaches to fit their individual needs is something I genuinely enjoy. I see this role as a wonderful opportunity to deepen my understanding of these subjects while positively impacting my students' educational journeys. Outside of academics, I have various interests, including figure skating, exploring different arts and crafts, and trying out new restaurants with my friends.

My general teaching approach centers around creating an engaging and supportive learning environment. Interacting with students from a non-judgmental and patient perspective is essential, as it fosters their confidence and encourages them to ask questions more openly. Having grown up with tutors, I have developed the ability to differentiate between effective teaching techniques and those that may only resonate with some learners.  Since I have this experience in the back of my head, I believe it will make my teaching experience more effective. I understand that some students may be quicker or slower to understand certain concepts, and that's perfectly normal. With this understanding, I adapt my teaching methods to align with each student's unique learning style, ensuring they feel comfortable on their learning journeys. I emphasize using visuals and real-life examples to make lessons more relatable and impactful. Ultimately, I aim to teach students the material through fun, engaging, thorough, and relatable teaching strategies!

Tutoring Experience

I have a strong foundation in teaching various mathematics and AP Psychology levels. I took AP Psychology last year, scored well on the exam, and completed two additional online courses: abnormal psychology and neuropsychology. Additionally, I work alongside my teacher and a team of other AP Psychology teaching assistants. My responsibilities include assisting students until they understand concepts, hosting review sessions, and offering one-on-one support. As an AP Psychology teaching assistant this year, I've already had experience tutoring students 1-on-1, which has equipped me with a solid foundation in understanding how best to cater to specific students' learning styles and paces. As for mathematics, I've done well in all math levels, and I'm currently taking AP Calculus and AP Statistics.
