Hello! I am a freshman at Northeastern University, enrolled in the Global Scholars program, majoring in Criminal Justice and Sociology. My academic journey started at Chinese International School during grades 6-8 and transitioned to Hong Kong International School for my high school years. As an alumnus of Hong Kong International School, I bring a deep understanding of the academic pressures and challenges faced by students in a competitive educational environment. By drawing on my successful strategies and insights from navigating similar courses, I aim to empower students to excel academically and develop confidence in their abilities.
In my approach to tutoring, I customize sessions to match individual learning styles, whether visual or auditory, ensuring that each student can engage with the material in the most effective way possible. For example, for those who benefit from visual aids, I incorporate mind mapping from the outset to help them visualize relationships between topics and retain information more effectively. We start by identifying the core elements of a topic, and then branch out to detailed sub-topics, using colors and images to enhance memory and understanding.
A typical tutoring session with me begins with assessing the student's current understanding and objectives. This is followed by a structured yet flexible lesson plan that includes a brief overview of the topic, targeted practice problems, schoolwork, and interactive activities that encourage critical thinking and application. I conclude sessions by summarizing key points and setting clear, achievable goals for the next meeting, providing ongoing support and feedback to help students meet their academic goals.

Tutoring Experience
During my junior year at Hong Kong International School, I served as a teaching assistant for the Humanities II in Action course, where I facilitated classroom discussions and debates on critical issues such as the universe of obligation, marginalized groups, and the judicial system. My responsibilities also included providing detailed feedback on essays and projects, with a focus on enhancing students' skills in structure, argumentation, and research.
In addition to my classroom experience, I co-founded and led the Multimedia Communications department at HumanKind, where I played a key role in developing and executing outreach programs that included workshops, community events, and tutoring sessions tailored to diverse learning styles. My commitment to education also extended to my involvement in the HKIS Freshmen Mentoring Program, where I provided guidance and support to high school students navigating their academic and personal development.
Throughout my high school years, I undertook multiple AP courses, including Chinese, Economics, Psychology, Government, English Language and Literature, Human Geography, and Statistics. This academic preparation has also been complemented by attending summer programs at Columbia University and Cornell University, and working as a research assistant for Professor Yvonne Chiu at Stanford University. These experiences have not only deepened my understanding of academic subjects but also honed my ability to convey complex concepts effectively across various age groups and educational settings.
