Claire
Hong Kong International School
Hi everyone! My name is Claire and I'm a junior currently studying at Hong Kong International School. I love humanities, and I enjoy science as well. Being at HKIS all my life, I can say that I understand the curriculum and the unique ways of teaching very well. Recently, through my job of being a TA, I have discovered the joy that comes with teaching; I love to help out, and I am more than willing to provide guidance and support to anyone who is looking for it. Besides academics, some other things that take up my time are my sport, which is swimming, and my hobbies, such as cooking and playing the piano! I treasure time with my friends and family, and I love exploring new restaurants around Hong Kong.

Education is a journey that looks different for everyone, which is why it is so important for us in teaching positions to understand how different learning can look for different students. I hold myself to a standard which is to be flexible in my approach and clear in my explanation. When explaining hard-to-grasp concepts or difficult tasks, I break them down into simpler and smaller bites by either explaining them in easier terms or explaining them with an example that is memorable. Being able to relate new information to the student's prior knowledge is also something I intend to do properly.

Tutoring Experience
At school, I am a TA for Humanities 1 (Grade 9 course), where I follow the general outline of the curriculum at the student's pace, and provide support along the way. I do this by creating quizzes, facilitating discussions, and preparing material for the class. The students also know that they can come to me for any personal questions they may have. Aside from TA-ing, I have also informally tutored kids around my neighborhood on topics like English and science during the summer.
