About me
Tharinya is a 2nd-year student at the University of Hong Kong who scored full marks in Edexcel IAS Chemistry and an A* in Edexcel IAL Mathematics, teaching IGCSE and A-Level Math and Chemistry. She loves these subjects because they reward logical thinking and finds great satisfaction in helping students achieve their goals and experience those "aha!" moments. Beyond academics, she enjoys baking and reading, and previously volunteered teaching math at a girls' orphanage during her final year of high school.
Qualifications
Tharinya achieved 12 grade 9s and 1 grade 8 at Edexcel IGCSE, including 9s in both Mathematics and Chemistry and an 8 in Further Pure Mathematics. She went on to score 300/300 in Edexcel IAS Chemistry and nearly full marks across all units in IAL Mathematics, ultimately earning A*AAA at A-Level with an A* in Mathematics and an A in Chemistry. Currently, she is studying Materials Engineering at HKU.
Experience
Tharinya has 3 months of experience tutoring Mathematics to middle school students at a girls' orphanage. Additionally, she spent 5 months tutoring university students in academic English at HKU Communication Support Services as a Peer Writing Consultant.
Teaching approach
Tharinya uses fun, simple, real-life analogies to explain complex concepts, focusing on helping students understand the logic and 'why' behind ideas rather than just memorizing information. A typical lesson follows a structured format: going through theory, working example questions together, letting students try problems independently, and ending with a recap, while she encourages active participation throughout. After teaching a chapter, she provides topical question papers assembled from past exam questions targeting challenging areas, and for exam prep, she focuses on past papers to help students grasp writing style while reinforcing content confidence.
