About Me

Hi, I'm Peyton! I'm a senior at the Hong Kong International School and my passions lie in mathematics, computer science, and economics. I am a math teaching assistant, a leader of my school's math club, and a tutor for the HKIS Math and Science Center. I've supplemented my love for learning by taking additional courses with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Outside of academics, I am a Varsity basketball athlete, a dancer, and a volleyball player. Additionally, I am a writer and an avid reader, and I love listening to music.

Academic Qualifications

I've taken numerous AP exams, scoring a 5 out of 5 on all exams I've taken: AP English Language and Composition, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science A, AP World History: Modern, AP Capstone Seminar, and AP Chinese. I'm currently taking AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C: EM/M, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Capstone Research, and Math Advanced Topics. My SAT score is a 1550, with a 760 for English and a 790 for Math. I have been awarded the AP International Diploma, AP Scholar with Distinction, AP Scholar with Honors, and AP Scholar awards.

Tutoring Experience

While I specialize in mathematics and economics, I have taken a diverse set of courses in the sciences, social sciences, and language. On top of this, I have had much experience tutoring. For example, being a tutor for the HKIS Math and Science Center has allowed me to tutor individual students in subjects like Precalculus, as well as host review sessions for subjects like Advanced Algebra. Outside of school, I've also been involved in helping tutor underprivileged youth, teaching them English, and supporting their learning journey.

Tutoring Approach

As a teaching assistant for Honors Advanced Algebra and Grade 8 Math, I've learned how to effectively teach and communicate with my students. I understand that mathematics may be an area that not many students are strong in, so I generally try to help students understand concepts and equations by explaining not just the "what", but also the "why". I find that in my academic career, understanding how and why things work is always easier than trying to memorize formulas, equations, and concepts. I also try to make my lessons as fun as possible while also helping students learn, engaging students in fun activities or practice, and tailoring lessons to each student.
