I am a Grade 10 student at the French International School of Hong Kong studying the IGCSE curriculum. Originally from France, I have lived in Hong Kong my entire life. Outside of academics, you may find me at Model United Nations conferences, equestrian stables, or onstage singing! My favorite subjects have always been languages - of which I speak four. For me, being a tutor is accompanying students on their learning journey and transforming daunting, or complicated, subjects into areas of confidence and capability. I have had experience working with students of all ages to help them achieve their full potential.
French language qualifications:
- In addition to being native, I have achieved my french delf B2 certification and am currently preparing the C1.
English Language and Literature qualifications:
- Throughout my IGCSE learning journey, this is one of the subjects I have consistently been awarded A* in. Additionally, I have had multiple competitive internships for english speaking magazines and newspapers in which selection was based on essay submissions.
My formal experience as a tutor has primarily been for beginner French students, ranging from no prior experience to basic mastery of the language. I have 4 years of experience working with primary students for French, Math, and English. For the past two years I have been an MUN club Director which has given me experience working with students ages 11-18. This has allowed me to learn how to best to adapt my teaching to varying ages. Additionally, my life in a bilingual school has provided me with exposure to working with individuals in both English and French interchangeably.
My philosophy is that confidence is key to enhancing comprehension and memorisation, which is why I start sessions a brain starter to create a productive mindset. Primarily using the Feynman Technique, where students assess their prior knowledge, refine their thoughts as we explore the topic, and simplify notes until they can explain the concept to a beginner. Guaranteeing full comprehension of complicated concepts and highlighting small tricks and tips for reviewing. Each student is unique and needs different types of support. Which is why I always end my sessions with a review that covers: what was learned, what used to be challenging but now understood, and what needs further attention. This shows the student their progress and clear goals, as well as helping me see how I can adapt published or personal resources in order to better suit and support my tutees. Personalising my resources is always my mission because there is no one size fits all in terms of education or tutoring.
