About me

Michael is a senior at Hong Kong International School serving as Senator of Academics on the Executive Council, teaching a wide range of AP and honors courses across STEM, humanities, and social sciences. He is passionate about helping students succeed academically while balancing leadership responsibilities and diverse interests. Outside the classroom, he enjoys watching and playing basketball, photography, and listening to music.

Qualifications

Michael earned perfect 5s on six AP exams, including AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP English Language, and AP World History, while maintaining a cumulative 3.98 GPA with a 4.0 in 9th and 10th grade. Additionally, he scored 1540 on the SAT and received High Commendation in the John Locke Global Essay Competition for Psychology.

Experience

Michael tutors at both the HKIS Math and Science Center and Humanities Center, teaching Biology, English Language, World History, Environmental Science, and math courses up to Calculus. He conducts review sessions and one-on-one tutoring through HKIS systems, supporting students across multiple AP subjects.

Teaching approach

Michael starts by understanding each student's goal—whether exam performance or intellectual enrichment—and tailors his approach accordingly. For exam-focused students, he practices answering questions from a test evaluator's perspective, while for enrichment-focused students, he provides guidance on concepts not fully grasped in school.
