About me
Lizi is a freshman at Hong Kong Baptist University who fell in love with Spanish while reading Gabriel García Márquez and made it her goal to read his works in their original language, now teaching IB Spanish to help others discover the beauty of the language. With fluency in 6 languages and 2 more in progress, she is passionate about making language learning fun and interactive through real understanding rather than memorization, deeply interested in how language connects people across cultures. Outside academics, she performs Georgian National Dance, which has taught her discipline and creativity, and enjoys playing both violin and piano.
Qualifications
Lizi graduated with 44/45 in the IB Diploma, studying Spanish ab initio at SL on a European Union Scholarship. Beyond the IB, she scored 1580 on the SAT and earned 8.5/9.0 on the IELTS. She currently attends Hong Kong Baptist University on two full scholarships—one from the university and one from the HKSAR government.
Experience
Lizi has 6 years of experience tutoring English and Russian to students aged 6-18, with additional experience supporting IB and Georgian National Exam preparation. Throughout her tutoring career, she has also worked with students in Math for 3 years across various age groups and curricula.
Teaching approach
Lizi focuses on understanding first and memorization second, explaining the "why" behind grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure to build genuine comprehension. She uses a step-by-step lesson structure that includes warm-up conversation or revision, introduction of new concepts in context, guided practice across all skills, real-life application through role-play, and a quick recap at the end. Throughout lessons, she applies the "learn by speaking" method where students actively speak from the very first lesson and uses a variation of the Feynman Technique where students explain concepts back in simple terms. To support this, she creates custom vocabulary lists and exercises based on each student's interests and weak areas while encouraging a mistake-friendly environment where confidence and consistency drive progress.
