About Me

I'm Kaira, a sophomore at Rice University majoring in Biochemistry and Finance. At HKIS, a lot of my experiences were focused on biological/analytical research and inquiry, which is why I am most specialized at teaching STEM fields. On campus, I am involved in pancreatic cancer research, in multiple investment funds, and community organizations. A few of my hobbies include making matcha lattes, solving crosswords and sudokus, and spending time with my dogs!

Academic Qualifications

Throughout high school, I achieved outstanding results in my Advanced Placement courses, scoring a 5 in AP Biology, AP Human Geography, AP Environmental Science, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics, AP French Language and Culture, AP Calculus BC, AP Psychology, and AP Literature and Composition. I also managed to secure a 4 in AP Physics 2, AP United States Government and Politics, and AP United States History. My SAT score was an impressive 1560 out of 1600.

In college, I continued my academic excellence with a perfect GPA of 4.00. I was named to the President's Honor Roll in the fall of 2023, spring of 2024, and fall of 2024. Tutoring Experience

I have been a Stryv tutor for 3 years, and have worked with a variety of age groups on different subjects from grades 1 - 11 in French, Math, and Science. At HKIS, I was also a Math and Science tutor for 3 years and helped students in on-level, honors, and AP STEM subjects on a weekly basis. I adapt my lessons based on age, subject, and learning style. For younger students in less content-heavy subjects, my lessons are more interactive, whereas for older students in more challenging subjects, I veer towards a lecture/question/test style, which is the most effective.

Tutoring Approach

My goal is that all my students feel like they are on the right track while challenging themselves in their academics and beyond. In any given session, I am structured and cater to my client by carving out a detailed lesson plan before hand after consulting with my student on what he/she needs. In the session, I have visual aids and stop frequently to check for questions as well as pose questions to my students to make sure they understand the content. I like to pepper my lessons with interactive activities to keep students engaged in the material. After sessions, I provide worksheets and homework for practice. This way, my students can stay involved in the content and be prepared in advance for any exams that come their way.
