Hi there! I'm Claire and I am a G12 at HKIS, and I tutor mainly Chinese (both simplified and traditional) and on-level math here at Levitate and at HKIS. I LOVE learning languages and I am currently learning Spanish and Japanese :) Some things I like are jazzy-lo fi music, watching anime, and playing Mario Party with my friends.
I have studied in a local school for over 7 years and have received a 5 on the AP Chinese test, making me a qualified Chinese tutor for all levels, both traditional and simplified. I am also an expert in Mandarin speaking, and I have been participating in the annual Hong Kong Speech Festival consistently since primary school, winning multiple silver and gold awards.I have built a solid foundation in Mathematics and am dedicated to helping students prepare for High school on level math. I have straight As in Geometry, Advanced Algebra, and PreCalculus and am taking AP Calculus AB.
I have led HKIS's Chinese Tutoring Center since grade 10. I have had experiences tutoring high school and primary school students, giving me several experiences and styles in tutoring different age levels. I have also experience tutoring Chinese and math with students at different starting points. In my previous tutoring experiences, I helped students get a 5 on their AP Chinese exams and an A in their Chinese/Math class.
I strongly believe in immersive learning; learning languages is hard, and I feel it when learning Japanese and Spanish. I always provide sufficient emotional support to my students, encouraging them not to be afraid to try new things during classes. For younger students, I always try to play some games with them, speaking ONLY Chinese after helping them with school work; this is always a great practice to enhance students' conversational and interpreting skills. Sometimes, children tend to lack interest in the language and are solely seeking help for course completion; depending on the client's expectations and goals, I customize the course intensity along with how much effort I have to put into creative matters in sessions or academic support.Math heavily relies on a solid foundation; without the foundation, any knowledge built on top of that can easily crumble. While helping with homework is the main task, I will also observe my student's math foundation, from calculation to geometry to algebra. Then, I will spend time to help solidify students' math foundation once homework and reviews are completed. This allows a parallel development to assist with short-term goals and prepare them for future math classes they might take.
