About me

Charisse is a senior at Hong Kong International School who co-founded CodeHers, a women-in-tech organization reaching 400+ students across 50+ Hong Kong schools, teaching AP sciences, computer science, and humanities courses. She is deeply involved in robotics through TA-ing a robotics elective and competing on her school's VEX team, where she mentors teammates and leads build sessions, and loves building projects with arduinos and neural networks in her free time. Beyond STEM, she has been dancing ballet for 14 years, taking on solo roles in performances like The Nutcracker, Cinderella, and Coppelia.

Qualifications

Charisse scored 1540 on the SAT (790 Math, 760 English) and earned perfect 5s on AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, AP Language and Composition, and AP Computer Science Principles. She has maintained Honor Roll status throughout grades 9, 10, and 11.

Experience

Charisse served as a Robotics Teaching Assistant at HKIS for one year, where she co-designed a 17-week robotics curriculum and led weekly 2-hour lab workshops for 20+ students while managing lab safety and materials. Additionally, she cofounded CodeHers and volunteered as a student tutor for four years, designing a 3-week tech curriculum and training 30+ presenters to work with high school students.

Teaching approach

Charisse focuses on learning through practice problems, structuring lessons with a quick warm-up or review of the previous session's key concepts before introducing new material and working through targeted practice. For exam-focused tutoring, she incorporates past paper practice, timed drills, and targeted weak-area review, adjusting the pace based on student confidence. Throughout sessions, she finds appropriate practice problems and provides simple written summaries to track progress, remaining patient as she discovers what makes each student's learning click and helps them enjoy the process.
