About me
Aika is a senior at Hong Kong International School originally from Japan, passionate about math and science with a particular love for chemistry, teaching a wide range of subjects from AP sciences to Japanese and Chinese language. She enjoys helping students connect with challenging concepts and discover their own strengths across different disciplines. Outside the classroom, she loves spending quality time with friends and family and baking treats for them.
Qualifications
Currently a high school student, has completed 6 AP courses (AP Chinese, AP Japanese, AP Human Geography, AP Chemistry, AP Economics, and AP Statistics) and is enrolled in 3 additional AP courses (AP Biology, AP Psychology, and AP Calculus BC). All math and science courses taken have been at the Honours level, including Honours Biology and Honours Advanced Algebra. Achieved Honour Roll with Distinction in both freshman and sophomore years, maintaining a GPA above 3.6.
Experience
Aika has weekly tutoring sessions through HKSAS, where she works with a local student to improve their English skills by reviewing articles and discussing comprehension questions. She has taken Honors math and science classes and scored 5s on AP Human Geography, AP Chinese, and AP Japanese exams, and is currently studying AP Chemistry, AP Economics, and AP Statistics.
Teaching approach
Aika firmly believes that constructing a strong relationship based on communication is key to effective tutoring, as student comfort motivates learning and helps her understand who each student is. This approach allows her to cater her tutoring style to each individual, whether that means a more hands-on or immersive method depending on what works best for the student.
