About me
Aakanksha is a senior at Hong Kong International School passionate about biology and STEM—a love sparked by watching Interstellar too many times—teaching science and math across AP, IB, and IGCSE levels. She finds tutoring deeply rewarding, especially watching students gain confidence as they solve more problems correctly and discover their own capabilities. Beyond academics, she plays basketball, badminton, and softball for HKIS teams, volunteers at the SPCA, and enjoys baking sweet treats for her family and going on runs with her dog. Having lived in India, the US, Malaysia, and Hong Kong while growing up bilingual in Hindi and English, she brings adaptability and cross-cultural perspective to her teaching.
Qualifications
Aakanksha earned perfect scores of 5 on AP Biology and AP Chemistry, and achieved A*/9 grades across all 9 IGCSEs taken, placing 3rd in Malaysia for IGCSE Economics and top in her school for IGCSE Math. Her academic excellence was recognized with the 2026 AP Scholar Award and three consecutive years of Academic Excellence awards. Currently, she is writing research papers for Princeton and HKU ethos programs and scored 1480 on the PSAT.
Experience
Aakanksha has been tutoring for around 2 years, working primarily with middle school students and some in 9th grade across IB, IGCSE, and AP curricula. She started the tutoring program at her previous school and has taught subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Economics, and Geography. Most notably, she helped 3 students achieve a grade 9 from a grade 7 in IGCSE Geography.
Teaching approach
Aakanksha uses visual teaching methods, drawing mind maps and demonstrating process steps before asking students to teach concepts back to her. She structures each lesson with clear objectives that students should confidently achieve by the end, beginning sessions with warm-ups reviewing previous material and ending with exit tickets to assess understanding. Throughout lessons, she encourages students to explore topics before providing explanations, fostering discovery-based learning while assigning manageable homework that respects students' busy schedules.
